It is stated in the Governance Handbook that all boards, no matter what type of schools or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

• Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and

• Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

More information on the role and how to become a governor can be found by following Cumbria Governor Support Services link.

We use the Education Endowment Foundation to support our Governors knowledge and understanding of their roles and all governors complete training and support via the National Governance Association. Links can be found below for more information.

The term of office for all governors is 4 years and declaration of interests are submitted at each meeting. Due to the new structure of the board in 2023, responsibilities are fluid and training is based around personal interests.

We are committed to improving the diversity of our Governing board and are supported by ‘Governors for Schools’ to recruit a range of governors with varying skills and from diverse cultural backgrounds. Due to the small numbers of governors on our board we do not publish diversity data for data protection reasons.
